UK curators visit to Romania
From 16 - 21 October 2005, Visiting Arts led a six-day research visit to Romania with support from The Ratiu Foundation UK. The participant curators were the following: Ben Borthwick (Assistant Curator, Tate Modern), Elisabetta Fabrizi (Assistant Curator, BALTIC), Jenny Brownrigg (Exhibitions Department, University of Dundee), Sian Bonnell (Director, TRACE), Kim Sukie Dhillon (Independent Curator), Kerri Moogan, (Programme Manager, Centre for Contemporary Arts, Glasgow).
The curators were accompanied by Ramona Mitrica, Director of The Ratiu Foundation UK, curator Simona Nastac (RO) and Nansi O'Connor, Visiting Arts (UK).
The visit explored contemporary visual art scene throughout Romania and included visits to state and independent art institutions and meetings with key art professionals and artists in Bucharest, Cluj and Iasi.
The following interviews were taken by Simona Nastac shortly after the visit, via e-mail, aiming to make available the curators’ feedback for a broader audience and also to open up a platform for further discussions.
